Often times, the quiet moments mean just as much as the majestic ones.
If ever we should find a positive aspect of traffic, it would be the incredible figures lights can create. 🌟 Countless cars following one another create wakes of different colours mingling together to create changing images, we could spend hours watching them. 💫 Don't you find them so fascinating?
As it turns out, one of my favorite perks of having an older vehicle for this vanlife excursion is the stories it brings to the surface for people we meet along the way. I’ve so loved getting to watch strangers eyes light up as they recount sweet stories that our bus brings to mind for them.
Recently, we met a man who started up a conversation with us about our bus, and then began to tell us of how similar it was to the one his father had when he was growing up. In the winter, his dad would pack up their bus, drive it out onto the ice near their home, and they would spend the day together out in that bus ice fishing. When they got hungry they’d open up the back of the bus and make themselves grilled cheese, and hang out there on the ice until they were ready to call it a day.
These stories are ones I cherish, that remind me that ‘vanlife’ is not a new, or radical, concept. This is something that in many ways, has been a big part of many people’s lives, intertwined with their dearest memories. I’m grateful that the strangers we meet along the way share these memories with us, and I’m even more grateful to be on the adventure of a lifetime in a bus that held 45 years of adventures before us.
When we went to Greece, we really weren't thinking.... "mmm the wine!" Until we were told to visit @santoswinery. Boy were we taken by surprised, who knew a volcanic island can produce such great tasting grapes. And the location is everything... the views as you sample are to die for!
Back in 2013, we toured two of the northern provinces, Ilocos Norte and Sur.
One of our stops is the Paoay Church. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The grandeur of its' architecture is absolutely breathtaking. There's also an amazing bell tower right beside it.
Make sure you see this in person when you visit the North.
