🦋 What magic we found yesterday, I can hardly describe. It's one of those things I'll remember forever. And I'm so grateful that I got to see the annual monarch butterfly migration, because it might not be here forever. Their numbers have dropped by 83%, because of herbicides, climate change, deforestation (a side effect of our love for avocados), and the loss of their favorite plant, milkweed. 🦋
“Which island are you from?” she asked me curiously. She was 30, married, wrapped up in a red hijab, sitting under a palm tree, de-seeding wild almonds with a knife to sell at 5$ a kg. .
“I’m from India,” I said with a smile. I asked her about her island (Maalhos, the one we were both on now), the one where her husband ran a bakery and she’d move to soon, and other islands in the Maldives she had been to. .
We chatted about our lives a while, and just as I was leaving, she asked: “Which island in India are you from?” .
Living far out in the Indian Ocean, surrounded by water and sand everywhere, even I nearly forgot that there is a world where people don’t live on islands 😇
Things are never as glamorous as they appear to be...
A few months ago I was going through a lil' rough patch. I returned from such a high point in my life to what felt like such a low one.
My anxiety was at an all time high, I felt more out of place than I had ever been and I was so overwhelmed and very unhappy.
Lately however, I've been feeling a lot better and I have this new outlook on the impermanence of life. That everything is temporary and that eventually, things may just get better🌷
I have such an immense amount of gratitude for all the people that put up with such a different side of me these past few months.
I love you and thank you.
And for anyone else who is going through mental health issues, you are not alone and I'll always be here for you 💚
#wwfid#wwf#alor#responsibletourism#conservation#indonesia#desaadattakpala
Which is one of your scariest experience till date? •
Mine recent one is so beautiful that it’s doesn’t feel scary sometimes.
October while in Spiti Valley, I so wanted to go on one more trek before I Hitchhike back to home and without giving a second thought I left for Pin Babha Pass on my own.
It was beautiful as haven and at the same time scary as hell because I was stuck there alone with no clue where to go. I lost my trail.
First time in my life, I shouted as loud as I can; HELP, HELP, HELP and obviously no one replied.
Now, it’s an another story what did I do then and how I managed to come back to Spiti alive.

Preparing packages for the local students. YESD and @nus_singapore students have brought many items with them, including blankets, rice cookers, clothes, books and stationary, to give to local families and place in the community learning centre.
A feast for lunch! Chicken, tofu, bamboo shoots, spinach, pork, spring rolls, omelettes and rice!
I'm in Ha Giang for the next eight days with @yesd.vietnam and students from @nus_singapore. They are working on some community projects and teaching local students. Loving the cold weather in the north.
We've arrived in Ha Giang! After some bánh mì and coffee, students from @nus_singapore are ready to get to work on their community project. Fun times ahead!
Happy Friday! We have another exciting announcement: at just over $5,000 raised, Human Connections is able to fund a second new artisan partnership. We are so pleased to welcome Belén and Juve to our team! This creative husband-and-wife duo paints and makes colorful traditional piñatas. What makes visiting them even more special are the stories they have to share - they both grew up right here in Bucerías. Thank you to those who have generously donated to our holiday fundraiser!
We're not done yet! Help us reach our goal to add three new families to our growing team. Donation link in bio
